Revolution doesn't happen without turning points. At any point in modernity, there is a cornerstone that defines an era.

Recently, I have been grappling with the advent of technology, global communication, and access to information. My curiosity fuels my procrastination. If something interests me, I try to learn as much as I can before I move on to something else.

This enthusiasm is both a blessing and a curse. I am constantly having to redirect myself and it is just too much fun to imagine following a daydream. My days are easily derailed by fleeting ideas like what it takes to become an architectural historian; learning how to program and develop the application idea that could change the way I work; or prototype the product that I thought up in the shower.

Every idea is a quick internet search away from becoming reality. My methodology is to think big, plan accordingly, and edit down with budget, timelines, and boundaries. I rarely think that something cannot be done.

The problem is – information and education have become a commodity. Not only has higher education become incredibly expensive but most universities (including ivy league institutions) have begun outsourcing the online coursework to sell certificates for thousands of dollars and most of these certifications mean little to hiring managers. Business diversification has even led reputable news outlets to share content with the goal of increasing their affiliate marketing income.

At the end of the day, it is difficult to know where to start or who to trust when you are embarking on entrepreneurship or following a new idea. Especially, when the American Dream ideology emphasizes going at it alone.

People rarely share how they fail and wait to talk about what they are working on until it feels like something worth mentioning.

Success is not the only value in trying something out. More insight and information is gained from trying and failing. Informed decision-making means that you are constantly testing, listening, and adapting to what works.

Sharing is a part of building community and support systems. Vulnerability is beautiful and enjoy helping people they care about so if you don't know, ask. No one has been successful without support from someone else.

Your ego might hold you back but you also have to inflate it to put yourself out there!

All of this reminds me of the following speech from Issa Rae (which I listen to in most times of doubt)...
